The Animal Kingdom
The animal kingdom is divided into vertebrates and invertibrates. Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish are vertebrates. The invertebrates are in the creepy crawly section.
Animals
All animals have one thing in common - they eat other living things, either plants, animals, or both. Also almost all, except a few sea animals, can move around.
What is a vertebrate?
Most of the large animals in the world are vertebrates. This means that they have a backbone, and most are made up of bones put together to make a skeleton. Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish are all vertibrates.
Vertebrates
All vertibrates came from same ancetor millions of year ago, but have changed, or evolved, into these four main groups.
Mammals :
most live on land, none can breathe under water.
Birds :
all birds have wings and most of them can fly.
Fish :
all fish live in the sea or in fresh water.
Reptiles and Amphibians :
these animals live on land or in water.
Most vertebrates can move around.
Lion
The lion is one of the most ferocious meat eaters of the mammal group. Lions keep their sharp clows inside their toes to protect them, until they need to attack.
Do all animals have brains?
No a few Invertebrates have on brains.
What is an invertebrate?
The world Invertebrate simply means not having a backbone. The "creepy crawly" section of this book is made up of the animals called invertebrates. Some of them have skeletons on the outside of their bodies, some don't have any bones at all.
Creepy Crawlies
Creepy crawlies, or invertebrates, make up over 95% of all animals. But most of them are so small you don't notice them.
Eg : Ant are insects, which are creepy crawlies.
