World Climates

Near the Earth poles, it is freezing cold all year around. But near the Equator it is always hot and rainy. We say that the pole Equator have different climates.

World maps show horizontal lines that divide Earth into zones with different climates. Trophical zones are always cold. Temperate zones are a mixture of the two, with warm summers and cool winters

Antarctica has a polar climate. It is always freezing cold, and there are fierce blizzards. Pengums keep warm by growing a thick layer of fat and huddling together.

A desert climate is very dry all year round. Deserts can be baking hot in the day but very cold at night.

Palces near the Equator are both warm and rainy all year. Dense tropical rainforests grow here.

Tropical Grassland

Some tropical places have a dry season and a rainy season every year. Trees are less common here, and the ground is covered with grass.

Deciduous Forest

Warmer parts of the temperate zone are full of trees that shed their leaves in winter. We call them deciduous trees. 

Deciduous trees change colour as their leaves die in autumn
